Swiffer users, your life just got a little bit easier. Or - at least a little bit cheaper.
I'm slightly embarrassed about how short this blog post is going to be - and I would be all out mortified if what I was about to tell you wasn't so gosh darn helpful and awesome. And I'm SURE you've seen it before online - maybe not sure if it would work, or maybe you assumed it would be a big pain in the butt...whatever the case, I am here to tell you that you CAN reuse the Swiffer WetJet Solution bottles.
Should I give you a moment alone? Let that tidbit of goodness sink in a bit?
I've been eyeballing this idea for a loooong time. Stupidly long...especially when we like to use mostly vinegar and water to clean around here. But sometimes I'm in a rush and really enjoy the convenience of the Swiffer and those handy dandy little jets that spray out cleaning solution. I mean who wants to lug out a dumb, big ol' soapy bucket of water for a gross, dirty mop?
But I digress -
When I run out of the solution, I always forget about it. Always. So then my Swiffer sits, unused for a sad amount of time until I find myself accidentally wandering by the aisle where the refills are and it dawns on me I need to buy one for my lonely, underused mop.
So when I saw this pin, I figured it was time. Long overdue time to see if you can actually reuse the Swiffer bottles. This pin comes from Primal on a Dime.
She uses a boiling water method. This is the method I've seen mostly commonly used in the blogosphere. I also noticed on another blog, one of the commenters said you could use pliers and just twist the cap off. I thought this seemed a little more my style - why lug out a pot and boil water if you don't need to, right?
So I busted out the pliers, and to my surprise - with a little (and I do mean little) elbow grease, the cap DOES indeed twist off. Holla!
I filled my container with a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% of warm water, twisted the cap back on nice and tightly and got to mopping. Gotta love saving money!
Have you tried this yet? DO IT.
