Breathe Fingers, Breathe!

There has been a huge rise in the popularity of fingerless gloves. Have you noticed it? I have to tell the truth, this was not a trend that I immediately jumped onto. For some reason every time I hear "fingerless gloves" I picture Madonna wearing some killer lace ones to accessorize her big 80's hair. I need to re-adjust my thinking though. I have seen a million patterns for fingerless gloves lately and since I seem to have a small attachment to my iphone, fingerless gloves are quite handy. It is time to embrace the trend and let my fingers breathe... and text.

If you are a knitter, you know that sometimes you see a yarn and you know that you have to own it. You have no idea what you are going to do with and you have no idea how much of it you are going to need, and sometimes you don't even know how it will look once it's knitted, but it WILL be yours.

This yarn is that yarn for me. It's Schoppel-Wolle's Pur. This picture doesn't do it justice. It's a fun, felted chunky merino yarn. Yup, I love it and it needed a home and a project. I think I looked at this yarn for about a year before I finally broke down and bought it... still without a plan.

After staring down this skein of yarn, I decided it was time to take on the fingerless gloves. I looked at a lot (seriously a lot) of patterns and almost all of them used a light weight yarn.... then I came across this one.

You'll see that the pin is from Ravelry, but the original pattern comes from the Tricksy Knitter. It's a super fast knit that uses a chunky weight yarn and was the perfect pattern for my beloved felted yarn. The one thing that I realized when knitting was that I really didn't need the yarn overs (the little holes for you non-knitters that are humoring me right now by reading this). They sort of got lost because the yarn is variegated, but I still love them. And yes, I know that they don't match - that's part of their charm!

Here is the fun pattern -- you should knit yourself a pair of these, unless you're still rockin' the lace Madonna gloves in which case... rock on!
