I made it! I made it! I survived VirusGate 2012. Here's what's funny - I was looking at website that I saw through a pin on Pinterest and it infected my whole dang laptop! Rawfoodsomethingorother - so just beware, ok? When an alert pops up on your screen and asks you if you are SURE you want to click through and visit rawfoodsomethingorother DO NOT SAY YES. DO NOT PASS GO. DO NOT COLLECT $200. Run, run like the wind.
Ok, now that we got that out of the way...let's move on shall we?
We are big smoothie fans around here. It's a sneaky way for me to get veggies into
Usually I do spinach, fruit, almond milk, flax, honey and some protein powder. But I decided it was time to change things up a little bit - the weather was around 80 degrees here and it felt like the perfect excuse to make a tropical inspired smoothie.
After perusing through a few recipes and not finding what I really wanted, I decided I would just create my own! You can adjust the following measurements to your liking - this is not super sweet. Instead, it tastes like real fruit in your glass. But if you wanted to add some sugar or use maple syrup or more honey, be my guest...
Orange Pineapple Coconut Smoothie
Juice of 1 orange (or the kind from a carton if you have some!)
2 oranges - peeled, sliced and frozen (I used the Cara Cara oranges from Trader Joes - they are beautiful and sweeter than regular navel oranges)
1 c. frozen pineapple
2 tblsp flax meal
1 c. coconut milk (canned)
1 tblsp honey (or sweeten to taste)
1 scoop of vanilla flavored protein powder (I bet you could add a splash of vanilla extract if you preferred)
1 c. ice
I threw all the ingredients in my trusty Ninja and in about 30 seconds had a delicious, healthy smoothie that had me wishing I was sitting on a beach with my toes in the sand.
And see? The baby still loves it!
