Party Like a Rockstar

So, if you saw our Facebook page this weekend, you might have seen me post about my son's first birthday.  It's kind of amazing to me that a year ago, we were sitting in the hospital, visiting my little guy in the NICU, seeing him hooked up to breathing machines and wires and tubes - and today he lives in our house, eats at our dinner table and crawls up our stairs.  A year goes by so fast, and it's an awesome thing watching your children grow and learn.

There are 10 years between my 2 boys, and it's been fun (and a little crazy) to go through the newborn/baby stage all over again.

For Beckett's party, I contemplated vintage airplanes like his nursery until a baby rockstar/baby's first gig concept caught my eye.  It was really fun and Pinterest was full of good ideas.

This invite is what started it all!

I enlisted the help of my good friend, Teresa who jumped at the chance to create rockstar themed fun with me.  We made the little goodie bags below with the houndstooth duck tape from Michaels and a "You Rock, Thanks for Coming" button on the front.  Inside?  Glow stick bracelets, organic fruit snacks, bubbles, temporary tattoos, kid sized sunglasses and rockstar rubber duckies.

We hung up this picture, which is one from his photo shoot with RaeElle Photography and my husband said, "Ohhhhh!  So THAT'S why you wanted a few shots of him dressed up like a rock star..."

I had ordered some of these wooden bunting pieces from Pick Your Plum specifically for the party.  They arrived like this:

With a little green paint, some black vinyl letters that we cut with the Cricut, and some Houndstooth ribbon from Walmart, I came up with this:

Inflatable Guitars from Amazon

We covered a kid sized picnic table with butcher paper, and Teresa drew an outline of some guitars for the kids to color on.  Add a few toddler safe crayons and washable markers and we were good to go.

I emailed all the guests to let them know to bring their kids a swimsuit for some crazy fun times in the teeny tiny baby pools.  Rockstars party in the pool, too!  I provided swim diapers and sunscreen...

All of the food had a rockstar/music themed name!  We used more of the houndstooth duck tape for the name cards.

Vanilla Bean Cupcakes, in mini form with colored sprinkles.

I found this guitar frame in the wood section of Michael's and just painted it green to match the color scheme of the party.

It took him a little bit to warm up to it, but once he figured out how good his little mini cupcake tasted, he was all about it!

Great party, great day, great time with friends.  I am relieved though, that he won't ever turn one again.  I'm partied out!

Cute little onesie made by Teresa, in colors that coordinated with our party theme.  LOVE it.

Have you done any themed parties for your kids?  What's been your/their favorite one?
