The Ramblings of a Knitter ...

Disclaimer - This isn't a normal Jamie post (whatever that is), this is a lot of ramblings. Be warned.

A while back Miranda asked me if I would knit Beckett another sweater. I had made one for him before he was born and sadly, kids grow, so it doesn't fit anymore. There is something I should divulge right here, I am not a patient knitter. There's a reason that I make baby hats - they are fast. It just so happens that at the moment Miranda asked me about the sweater, I had about lost all interest in baby hats. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about business but I have one hat on Etsy that sells as soon as I list it. I have made SO MANY of them. That one hat threw this knitter into a serious rut! I had started pinning new projects because it was time to find something interesting again. Miranda had seen one of those pins - the Latte Baby Coat, from Ravelry and claimed it for Beckett -notice her comment on my pin. Ha.

About the same time that Miranda was claiming the Latte Baby Coat, my good friend Tracy (one of my only friends that knit in Charlotte) came over for lunch and gave me crap about how it was time for a new project that I would actually finish. Ahem. Remember how I said I'm not a patient knitter? Yeah, Tracy knows that. I started a sweater for myself over the summer, Tracy started one too. She made not one, but two sweaters and I  - didn't. Mine is still sitting partially done in my knitting bag. Hat season came and the sweater got cast aside. Oops.

All of this (somehow) got me thinking about No Name Baby Girl #2 that is coming like a freight train. Yes, we call our baby No Name #2. Allen and I seem to be name picking challenged. We called Macie No Name until we were driving to the hospital (exactly two years today by the way), I guess we finally felt the pressure to decide. We each have lots of names, just none that we agree on. We will have to decide eventually right? Anyway, back to No Name #2 - I was thinking that I should make her a baby blanket and make it a priority to get it done before she's born. I had found a pattern that I loved on Pinterest - The Chevron Baby Blanket. I had originally seen the blanket on Dana Made It, but the pattern itself is from Purl Bee - one of my faves. Since I had already agreed to make Beckett's sweater - it was time to figure out yarns. I took the plunge and had Miranda pick out the color for Beckett's sweater and I picked out some colors for No Name #2's blanket and then - I ordered the yarn.

This is where I stand on Beckett's sweater.

I really wanted that picture to be Beckett wearing the sweater but well, it's not. I was about to start the sleeves and realized I didn't have the right needles and I haven't been able to get to a shop to pick them up yet. I don't miss much about Maryland, but I miss my little yarn shop and all the ladies in it. They used to keep me in check on projects too. I need to get myself in gear and grab the needles and get the little man's sweater done.

I know you are now wondering why I am telling you all of this and why I think you care. First, I have no idea if you care but here's why I"m telling you - My goal is to finish Beckett's sweater and then start and finish No Name #2's blanket before she shows her cute face the beginning of April. This is where you come in - I'm telling all of you about my unfinished projects today so you will ask me about them, bug me about them, tell me to get them done! Macie is going to be two on Saturday (I can't talk about it, I'll get emotional - how is she 2?!?!?!) and her baby blanket is still only two-thirds complete. Yup, fail. I need other people getting on my back to get things done!

So today, instead of showing you a cute completed project - here is my yarn. What do you think? I've been playing with the order -- thoughts??
