Crafting with the Kiddos:Martha Stewart's Crafts for Kids

A couple weeks ago Miranda and I were sent a super cool book. It came to Miranda's house but I'm going to tell you - I was a little giddy when she told me what was in her mailbox. I would like to believe that Martha personally boxed up our copy of Martha Stewart's Favorite Crafts for Kids and sent it to us with love, but who knows. Either way, we got a copy of this super fun book. Wheeeeee!

Miranda and I both thought that this was such a fun book and that it would be great to let our little people do a craft together from it. This book has so many great ideas, some of them are a little above our toddler's heads though. We decided that we shouldn't try to do an elaborate craft with two tiny people with tiny attention spans so we kept it simple... good old fashioned paper bag puppets.

Before we get down to business, I just need you to see this because it perfectly depicts Macie and Beckett's relationship...

I need to teach this kid about playing hard to get - Macie LOVES Beckett. Allen should be worried.

After they had a little lunch date, we got down to crafting. I got out some brown sandwich bags and showed the kids a picture of the fun paper bag dogs that we were going to make. The book made everything super easy because there are templates in the back of the book that you can follow to cut out all of the pieces to transform your bag into a lovable dog.

After cutting out the pieces for the kids, I decided to use scrapbooking glue runner instead of real glue. There is no way I saw glue ending well for me, we have good kids but still - no glue. The kids got to work (with some help) on their doggies. We let them color the bags to give the dogs a little personality. They took the task very seriously!

After getting everything glued on, it was time to test out the new puppets... I call it a success.

There are so many great ideas in this book. I can't wait for Macie to get a little bit older so we can do some of the more complex ones. She already loves "art pojects" and I love the idea of making a puppet theater and felt finger puppets, or maybe we'll try some cute rock pets and the baby chick beanbags - so many options. You need to look into this book, Martha has outdone herself - even if she didn't send us the book herself!

Oh and ps - as a special fun bonus you should check out Martha's Crafts for Kids videos. There are some great tutorials for kids of all ages. With school being out and kids getting starting to crawl the walls, this could be a lifesaver. Good job Martha, always thinking.

Also, Martha Stewart Living has generously offered to give one lucky winner a copy of the book, plus some fun surprises from the Martha Stewart Crafts collection! Woo hoo!  If you want to enter, leave a comment below - tell us what kind of crafts your kiddos go crazy for!
