Ikea Hack - desk into vanity!

So I told you in my recent post about the chevron nightstand makeover that I was doing a few little upgrades/changes to our master bedroom.  Mainly just getting it pretty instead of just functional, which is what it's been for the last 8 months since our move.  This is another one of those projects that I have to say I adore - the final outcome is so fun and useful and still a pretty little space.

Turning Ikea desk into vanity

Awhile back I saw this pin of an Ikea desk turned vanity on Design Sponge and my wheels started turning.

I remembered that I had a very similar Ikea desk - that was about double the size of the one pictured.  It was sitting collecting dust in our bonus room, and there was a big gaping hole to fill in the bedroom.  I knew it was a match made in heaven.  This is basically the desk before I converted it to the vanity - only my drawers were a light wood color.

I hauled it down the hall towards the bedroom and moved into the spot I was hoping it would fit - and it did!  Perfectly!  And then I began my hunt for a cute little vanity bench and big mirror.  The mirror in the original pin is from CB2 and while I ADORED the brass circle mirror - that puppy was well over $250 and helloooooo this girl does things on a budget, mmmkay?

I actually found the big rectangular mirror at Home Goods on sale for $49!  FORTY NINE DOLLARS PEOPLE.  For that huge mirror!  Score one for Miranda.  And I also found the bench there as well - it was pricier than the mirror, oddly - I think around $69, but I went ahead and splurged because it was perfect for what I was looking for.

Once I got home I spray painted the drawers with a glossy black spray paint to glam it up a little, and to tie in the black nightstands we have in the room.

This was such an easy and quick project - I cannot tell you how much I love the finished outcome.  It's not as glam as the original pin, but my suburban house isn't glam anyway so it fits.  It's the perfect touch of girlyness in this house full of boys and I especially love being able to sit and get ready now that I'm heading into my final month of pregnancy.

I bought some glass/crystal drawer pull things that coordinate with the small ones I put on my nightstand and am trying to decide if I want to put them on the drawers or not.

Either way, it's one of my favorite little spots in my room!
