Breakfast in Bed with DecoArt and Americana Paints

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TPP readers!  We love you guys and hope you are finding a way to make today fun, whether it be dinner out with a special someone, curled up on the couch with a great book or chick flick or...breakfast in bed!

On Tuesday, we told you that we were contacted by DecoArt to create a fun Valentine's Day post using products from their Americana paint line.  You saw the paint dipped champagne glasses, the personalized mugs, and today I'm excited to show you how we pulled it all together to make breakfast in bed for your Valentine!  We love this idea because it can be reused for so many other special occasions.

Americana has this really cool CLEAR chalkboard coating.  Um, why have we never heard of this stuff before?  Forget making your own colored chalkboard paint - it's a pain in the you know what!!  This product turns any acrylic paint into chalkboard paint.  Hello, awesome.

To make this tray you'll need:

- unfinished wooden tray (found this one at Hobby Lobby in their wood section)
- Americana paints in Razzle Berry and Cool White
- Americana clear chalkboard coating
- painters tape
- paint brush
I used painters tape to mark off where I put the Razzle Berry and where I would put the Cool White.  I did 2 layers of each color.

When the paint is fully dry, you bust out your super cool clear chalkboard coating.  Paint a layer of this horizontally, and then vertically and let dry for one hour before repeating this process.  I used 2 coats of chalkboard paint on the tray.  Let cure for 8 hours.  Before you use it, gently rub chalk over the area to condition your chalkboard.  Then write a fun little message or draw to your heart's content!

Can I just tell you guys how much I adore the concept of clear chalkboard paint?  This is a GENIUS idea - we used a make your own chalkboard paint recipe for a project several months ago, and it was a hassle.  This is such an awesome product and I can't wait to use it for more things in the future.

Now onto the hand painted napkin I mentioned in Tuesday's post.  To make this adorable heart themed napkin you'll need:

- fabric of your choice (we used a cotton square)
- Americana all purpose acrylic paint in Soft Heather, Grey Sky & Primary Red
- small paint brush
- painters tape

We started by taping down our fabric so we could paint straight lines.  Put some newspaper underneath your fabric so the paint won't bleed through.  Then tape off where you want your lines to go and paint!

You can use a stencil for the heart or free hand it - Jamie free handed it because she's cool like that, and just filled it in with the Primary Red color.

Tomorrow Jamie is coming at you with the full tutorial for this adorable tea box.

This was such a fun project and we are so thankful to DecoArt for letting us try out so many great products.  It was so nice to work with paints that had great coverage, glass pens that won't rub off glass like Sharpies do, and to discover the awesomeness that is clear chalkboard coating.

I'm really hoping if I leave this all out on the counter, my husband will notice it and bring me some delicious breakfast in bed!

We received all DecoArt products for this review, but the opinions are our own.
